The Coalition
The Coalition to Fix Actuarial Discipline (COFAD)
COFAD was formed to put pressure on the leadership of the actuarial profession to act, to do what's necessary to fix the actuarial profession's discipline process. All they need do is make simple changes to the actuarial Code of Professional Conduct, fix the ABCD rules, and hold bad ABCD actors accountable for their atrocious behavior in Bob's case. As of this writing, leadership has refused to act even after being fully informed.
We believe there is strength in numbers and hope leadership in our profession will get the message and uphold their responsibilities. To join the coalition, click here.

Our plan is to expand public outreach step by step until leadership does what they must do to Fix The ABCD.
The steps we see are:
-
Write to the "We Love The CAS" website members (< 700, vast majority from the CAS) - DONE
-
Write to the entire CAS membership list we have (reaching thousands of CAS members) - DONE
-
Notify the other four actuarial organization members, insurance industry regulators, magazine editors, and other insurance industry groups (reaching tens of thousands)
-
Notify popular online commentators, journalists, bloggers, etc. (potentially reaching millions)
-
Using social media and other tools
-

After completing only Steps 1 and 2, many senior actuaries as well as some very prominent actuaries have joined the COFAD effort, including well known CAS volunteers, past presidents of the CAS, a past federal insurance administrator and state insurance regulators.

Note: Some members prefer to stay anonymous; others prefer only their first name and last initial, while others allow their full names to be listed.

What COFAD Members are Saying . . .

"The ABCD should be apolitical or the integrity of the profession will be ruined. Discipline should solely be based on the ASOPs, unbiased evidence, unbiased testimony, and nothing more."

"Keep up the good work. A badly needed reform after 20 years in existence... good business practice suggests that a review after 20 years in business is a good thing to do... and that will surface the abuses you speak of as well as other warts in the system."

"This is most unfortunate both for our organization and the broader society. Those who wish to politicize and ultimately diminish our professional society must be met with a just and unwavering force."

"'I strongly support meaningful reforms to return the ABCD to the role and standards expected when it was created."

"I think there’s something wrong with our profession, and the people in leadership positions need to take it much more seriously. Preventing abuse of member actuaries needs to be a priority."

"Save the profession. It saddens me to read of how liberal and unresponsive the CAS has become."

"I would like to join. The professionals responsible should lose their membership in the profession."

"The ABCD must be apolitical and operate with integrity and transparency."

"What you have described is absolutely intolerable and must be punished severely!"

"Thanks for doing this."

"I never thought something like this would happen to ABCD. Guess I was too optimistic of human nature."

"It is important to me that the ABCD be as transparent, impartial, and apolitical as possible, to support the various actuarial organizations that also espouse the goals of furthering actuarial science in a transparent and apolitical way."

"I am convinced the people of the ABCD failed, based upon the written correspondence shared on WTLC regarding the ABCD case against (Bob). We all need a better process to prevent repeat abuse. I am also convinced that the ABCD members involved deserve discipline for their failures. Process matters. Accountability matters."

"I want politics out of the ABCD"

"Thanks for handling this!"

"This would be a good start at reform of the unfairness in much of how the CAS operates . . . "
